La poche à phosphate de Ste-Néboule (Lot) et sa faune de vertébres du Ludien supérieur. 4- CrocodiliensEric Buffetaut
Published online: 25/09/1978 Keywords: Eocene; Quercy Phosphorites https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.8.2-4.191-199 Abstract Crocodilians are represented in the Upper Eocene of Sainte·Néboule (Lot) by an isolated parietal and a dorsal scute, bath from young individuals. They are refferred to Diplocynodon sp. Predators (mammals and birds) are probably responsible for the occurrence of remains of small crocodilians (belonging to the genera Allognathosuchus and Diplocynodon) in the phosphorltes of Quercy. Les mammifères Montiens de Hainin (Paléocène moyen de Belgique) Part II : Les CondylarthresJean Sudre and Donald E. RussellPublished online: 30/12/1982Keywords: Belgium; Condylarths; Louisininae; Oxyclaeninae; Paleocene https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.12.6.173-184 Abstract The Condylarths from Hainin (Hainault, Belgium) show no affinity at the generic level to those known in other Paleocene localities of Europe and North America ; they are described as new forms : Monshyus praevius n. gen., n. sp. and Prolatidens waudruae n. gen., n. sp. Monshyus praevius, discovered in only one of the levels in the excavation at Hainin, is similar to the genera Microhyus TEILHARD and Louisina RUSSELL ; with them it is included in the subfamily Louisininae (Hyopsodontidae). With respect to Microhyus and Louisina, Monshyus is distinguished by the precociously modern aspect of its upper molars, the only teeth that are referable. Prolatidens waudruae, known only by lower molars, was found in several levels in the pit at Hainin. It is an arctocyonid presenting possible relationships to the North American form Oxyprimus galadrielae ; it therefore has been provisionally attributed to the subfamily Oxyclaeninae. If this attribution is confirmed, this species will constitute the first and only representative of the group in Europe. PV article infos Published in Vol. 12, Fasc. 6 (1982) |

A classic in the making : VERTEBRATE PALAEONTOLOGY (4th edition). By Michael J. Benton.Eric Buffetaut
Published online: 27/01/2016 Keywords: Book review; Vertebrate Palaeontology https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.40.1.e1 Abstract When the first edition of Mike Benton’s Vertebrate Palaeontology came out in 1990, sauropods still dragged their tails on the ground, the closest relatives of whales were mesonychids, and Mesozoic birds consisted essentially of Archaeopteryx, Ichthyornis and Hesperornis. Twenty-five years later, the book, now in its fourth edition, is a third longer, in a larger format and sports fine colour plates – in addition to a companion website. The microfauna of the Djebel Qafze CaveG. HaasPublished online: 15/09/1972Keywords: Micromammals; Rodents https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.5.5.261-270 Abstract This study examines the microfauna from Djebel Qafze Cave, focusing on mammalian remains, with Microtus guentheri as the dominant species and a notable absence of Cricetinae (hamsters). The richest layers (XVIa, XVII, XVIII) suggest accumulation by raptors, particularly owls, given the high presence of nocturnal species like voles and shrews. Two significant species, Arvicanthis cf. ectos and the newly described Rattus (? Mastomys) nazarensis, are highlighted. Reptiles (gekkos, Ophisaurus) and birds are also present, while hedgehogs and lagomorphs are absent. The findings underscore the role of avian predators in fossil deposition and refine the chronology of regional Pleistocene fauna. PV article infos Published in Vol. 05, Fasc. 5 (1972) |

Crivadiatherium iliescui n. sp., nouvel Embrithopode (Mammalia) dans le Paléogène ancien de la dépression de Hateg (Roumanie).Constin Radulesco and Jean SudrePublished online: 30/12/1985Keywords: Embrithopods; Late Eocene; Paleobiogeography; Romania https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.15.3.139-157 Abstract The investigations undertaken at Crivadia (Hateg Depression, Hunedoara District, Romania), the type locality of Crivadiatherium mackennai RADULESCO el al. (Radulesco, Iliesco et lliesco, 1976), led to the discovery of remains of a new Embrithopod. Close to the above mentioned species, but larger in size, this animal is here described as a new species of Crivadiatherium, C. iliescui. ln addition, the comparison made between the forms indicated above and Palaeaamasía kansui OZANSOY from the Eocene deposits of Anatolia (Ozansoy, 1966; Sen et Heintz, 1979) showed that the latter species included a heterogeneous material; this permitted us to distinguish the form in the Anatolian locality Ciçekdag-Arabin Kôyü under the name Palaeoamasia sp. The geographical distribution and diversity of the Embrithopod species under discussion (Balkan, Anatolia) support the idea of an eurasiatic origin of this group and seem to suggest the existence during the Eocene of a particular faunal province in south-eastern Europe. 3-4 (1975) |

Dating dinosaur oodiversity: chronostratigraphic control of LateCretaceous oospecies succession.Nieves Lopez-MartinezPublished online: 15/12/2003Keywords: Biostratigraphy; Chronology; dinosaur eggshells; Late Cretaceous https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.32.2-4.121-148 Abstract An increasing fossil record of dinosaur eggs and eggshells allows putting ootaxa within a chronostratigraphic framework, in order to study their distribution pattern leading eventually to their use as biochronological markers. For these purposes, high-quality data exists in four major regions; North America, South America, Europe and Asia (Central Asia and India). Most of the highly diverse dinosaur egg record has been dated as Latest Cretaceous in age (Campanian-Maastrichtian), reaching the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary closer than the dinosaur bone record. However, dating continental sections is problematic and need to be carefully verified, as it appears when comparing the European dinosaur eggshell record from two well-studied areas. Ootaxa distribution in both sides of the Pyrenees (Tremp and Aix basins) shows comparable oospecies successions, but different chronology. This disagreement probably indicates that one or both successions have a wrong chronostratigraphic calibration. PV article infos Published in Vol. 32, Fasc. 2-4 (2003) |

Les Gliridés (Rodentia) de l'Oligocène supérieur de Saint-Victor-la-Coste (Gard).Marguerite HugueneyPublished online: 28/10/1968Keywords: Gliridae; Late Oligocene https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.2.1.1-16 Abstract The locality of St.-Victor-la-Coste (Gard) has yielded, rather abundantly, teeth of two glirids hitherto very poorly known: Glirudinus praemurinus (Freudenberg) and Glirudinus glirulus (DEHM). It has permitted, moreover, new views on the evolution of Peridyromys murinus (POMEL). Study of these forms confirms the late Oligocene age of the fauna, without allowing, however, further precision. Diversity of triconodont mammals from the early Cretaceous of North Africa-affinities of the AmphilestidsDenise Sigogneau-RussellPublished online: 15/10/2003Keywords: amphilestines; Early Cretaceous; gobiconodontines; North Africa; Teeth; triconodonts https://doi.org/10.18563/pv.32.1 Abstract The mammalian fauna (represented only by isolated teeth) from the early Cretaceous of Morocco includes a number of non-'therian' specimens, characterized by the antero-posterior alignement of the main molar cusps. This assemblage is very heterogenous, including forms (among them Gobiconodon palaios sp. nov.) that can be related to Laurasian triconodonts and several forms so far known only in this part of Gondwana (among them Kryptotherium polysphenos gen. et sp. nov.). The latter, in particular, exemplifies the diversity of the mammalian dental morphology in the Mesozoic, often largely underestimated. In the last part of this paper, the 'therian' affinity of the 'amphilestids' is discussed, on the basis of the arrangement of molar cusps, the interlocking mechanism and the occlusal pattem.
